I wanted to share some tips that will help parents when sending their kids back to school. Sending kids to school with lunches can be one of the biggest areas where you might use wasteful products. Here are some tips that can cut down on this.

  • Buy organic or local food and snacks- By buying these types of foods you will teach your children about living organically as well as being able to help local farmers out.
  • Use reusable containers: This will cut down on the amount of those plastic baggies that are being thrown away everyday.
  • Recycle- This will show your children how important it is to recycle whatever you can.
  • Save Energy- Walk or carpool to school. This will save on the amount of pollution that is put up into the air.
  • Buy Eco-friendly/Recycled School Supplies- This can include environmentally friendly products, non-toxic products or materials that are made out of recycled materials.

Keeping your home safe is important. Once you have kids, keeping the harmful chemicals and dangerous materials out of your home seem like the most important thing there is. I wanted to share some simple tips that will help you to detox your home from the harmful chemicals and materials you may not even know are there. These are just some of the many things you can do to make your home more organic and safer for the little ones to play and live.

  • Food- There are many foods that contain pesticides, this is why it is important to switch to a whole food or organic diet. There are many resources both online and paper that can help you to make the switch.
  • Water- Because you use water for just about everything, it is important to get it tested for contaminants. You can also use filter that will filter the water and make it safer.
  • Kitchen- It is important to know what is harmful in your everyday use of the kitchen. Start by switching to glass storage container and switch to cast iron pans. Also know what can go in the microwave without releasing harmful chemicals.
  • Cosmetics- You should know what type of harmful chemicals are in any of the cosmetic products you use; this includes sun block, bug spray, cleaning products, shampoos, diaper creams and toothpaste.
  • Medicines- If you have medicines you have to take make sure that they are securely locked up where no child will be able to reach them. Also you can switch to trying more home remedies, taking away any unnecessary medicines from your children’s systems.

If you’re at all familiar with little children, you know how messy they can be. Using a disposable paper towel for every messy face, hands or spill is not only expensive, but it’s wasteful and bad for the environment (paper towels cannot be recycled).

EcoLeeko Eco-Friendly Toys

With the talk of lead and bad chemicals in children’s toys, parents are looking for more natural options. Natural toys made of wood and natural fabrics have become more main stream as customers demand higher quality items. Small toy companies are listening, and creating wonderful alternatives to plastic based toys and dolls.

Many stuffed animals are created in factories and made with Petroleum based fake furs and fabrics. They are then stuffed with a plastic-based filling. The eyes are usually a plastic material and the thread is again, made of polyester. Consumers can move away from the Petroleum based products we are all accustomed to, and seek natural alternatives.

Childrens Toys

Now that the holidays are over and life is a little calmer, it’s a great time to check on the safety of your child’s favorite toys. It seems like a given – that the toys we buy for our kids are safe and chemical free. However, by taking this for granted, we unknowingly risk exposing our kids to harmful substances.

All those spray bottles for household cleaners have tons of second-life uses. They can be used to water plants if you wash them out thoroughly first. Or, make your own homemade cleaners. Also, they make good kid’s squirt guns or cat training aids (cats hate water and this can be used to humanely discipline them).

Spray bottles can even be refilled with the original cleaning product by purchasing the concentrated version and mixing it with water.

It’s no surprise that all of the moisturising creams and lotions available in supermarkets contain plenty of nasty chemicals and toxins that are far from any good for a person, let alone a baby. Why not try some home-made baby lotion using natural and safe ingredients?
