Companion planting is an old gardening technique where the characteristics of plants can be used to benefit other plants. By combining plants carefully, you can offer plants protection from the wind or sun, as well as helping to attract beneficial insects and ward off harmful insects.
For example, you can use strong smelling Marigold plants to deter aphids from tomato plants. Or you can grow leeks and carrots together, as they each create scents that ward off each other’s pests. There’s more information on the BBC Gardening section and on the Down Garden Services website.
Amazon has plenty of organic gardening books available too.
