Regular cat litter is normally made out of non-biodegradable clay which is mined. It is also loaded with scents to mask any odor. This can be particularly harmful for kittens and the clay based litters will produce dust when your cat does its business and covers up it’s mess.

Try looking for litters without scent, and also made out of items such as wheat. You could also try adding shredded cardboard from packaging if you have any to hand to absorb cat urine and bicarbonate of Soda to mask the smell. These biodegradable litters can also be added to a compost heap to make compost for non-vegetable growing.
