Those fancy plastic composters may look good and professional in your garden, but they don’t let air to get into your compost. I prefer to use a wooden construction and pallets are best for this as they let the compost aerate.
For this you need four pallets of equal size. Simply stand three of the pallets on their sides and nail them together. For the front, take the fourth pallet and saw it in half. Nail this to the other three. This allows you to get your spade in the compost heap.
The compost heap now needs heat. Take a thick plastic sheet and cut it so that it will stretch from the back of the box to the front and down over the front half. Nail the plastic to the back of the box. Using the final half pallet, nail the wood onto the plastic sheet. This allows the sheet to sit on top of the box.
So there you go – an effective and free composter!
