Research is showing that Nalgenes and other similar bottles contain Bisphenol A (BPA), an oestrogen-like chemical. Too much oestrogen in the water supply is a bad thing.

Based on information from CANCERactive:

The latest debate concerns oestrogen levels in recycled drinking water, originating from HRT and contraceptive pills. This has been blamed for reduced fertility, and for increases in testicular cancer. Sperm count is down 20% in the UK in 25 years, whilst testicular cancer is up 80%. It has also been blamed for male fish showing female organ development.

Nalgene reports that they have begun phasing out production of bottles with this chemical, however replacing your existing Nalgene would be best for your health, and the environment’s as well.

Want an even better option? Skip the plastic altogether. Try a Sigg bottle. They are earth friendly and don’t leach harmful chemicals.

If you have a Nalgene bottle, you can switch to either a stainless steel water bottle or a BPA free water bottle.
